A scientific paper on the extension of VISIR to the modelization of sailboat routes was published on the IEEE Xplore online journal. 

The paper descrives how VISIR can compute routes using wind forecasts and boat-specific polars.

VISIR correctly computes tacking and jibing manoeuvrings needed for sailing the fastest possible route, keeping into account the time-evolution of wind intensity and direction, and always avoiding the shoreline!

The system used for producing the results pubished in the paper is operationally available through the PREMIUM version of VISIR  web application.
